More women leaders key to world peace?

While a completely peaceful world may never be a reality, a recent study and book by Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker forwards that the world would be a more peaceful place if more women were in charge.

In his new book, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Pinker claims "over the long sweep of history, women have been and will be a pacifying force."  Anyone who has served among mixed gender colleagues can probaby testify to the traditionally different leadership styles of men and women.  For more on these stylistic differences and what the increasingly diversified face of world leadership may mean for our future check out this great summary report on CNN and then share your thoughts on the difference between male and female leaders!

Make your resolution stick

At the beginning of each year many people make resolutions and set new goals.  I am going to workout more. I'm going to stop smoking.  I'm going to read more.  I'm going to be a better listener.  I'm going to spend more time with my kids/family.

Madeleine Albright on the women in government

Former U.S.Secretary of State Madeleine Albright speaks with her characteristic frankness and humor about the importance of having women leaders, her experiences in a male dominated profession and why women's issues are anything but "soft."  This is a short, to the point, enjoyable clip that women and men alike can learn from.

To err is human

In this brief video clip, Kathryn Schulz discusses the human capacity for being wrong and our inhuman attempts to always be right. As leaders, the pressure to always be right and never be wrong has never been so great.  Let this be a reminder that being wrong isn't necessarily bad.

Women in Leadership

In Rhode Island, one of the Toll sponsored sessions was a panel of fabulous women (and Toll Fellows) discussing how to get more women to run for office and seek leadership positions in government.  So, along those lines, we wanted to share this fabulous video clip of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg discussing women in leadership.  It is worth taking a 15 minute break for men and women alike - she makes some great points.  Enjoy!
